Julie D-Bondt Barker, author of "The Mourning After', a compelling memoir that is often not spoken openly about. Julie DeBondt-Barker is a vibrant Author that has recently appeared on the writers scene in Melbourne, Australia with the launch of her book, The Mourning After in November 2012. Since its release, Julie has had several radio interviews on ABC Radio, 3AW Radio, Joy FM, Rainbow Radio and Southern FM. In January 2013, Julie was invited to become an Ambassador for Beyondblue (an independent, not-for-profit organization), where she is now speaking on the national circuit. Julie marched in the Sydney Mardi Gras March 2013 to launch the Beyondblue “Stop-Think-Respect” campaign. A paper was written about The Mourning After which appeared in Brisbane’s “The Scene Magazine” in March 2013. In May 2013, Julie assisted Bishop Gene Robinson’s tour of Australia titled, “Straight Talk About Gay Marriage”.
In August 2013, Julie will be in San Francisco promoting her book. Julie has been invited to do a reading at Studio 333, “Why There Are Words Literary Reading Series”, in Sausalito, California.
Julie DeBondt was born and raised in Oregon, has travelled extensively, settling in Melbourne, Australia where she has called home for the past 28 years. Julie is married to Alan Barker and loves living with him at their beachside home in Melbourne. She has two children, Joe (Madison, Wisconsin) and Stefanie (San Rafael, California) and 2 gorgeous grandchildren.
Julie’s loves spending time her family (luckily she enjoys travelling), writing and scuba diving.
